The coastline of Tamil Nadu is the second-longest coastline in the country after Gujarat, having a coastal length of about 1076 km. The coastal corridor consists of 14 districts with 15 major ports and harbors, sandy beaches, lakes and river estuaries.
The mobile facility for disease diagnosis will directly support the farming community by reaching nearest to the farm site and facilitate the on-site sample collection and disease diagnosis process. Major objective is to provide pond water quality and disease testing reports at the earliest to the aquafarmers.
Well trained laboratory technicians will collect the samples on-site and thus will ensure proper sample collection process and at the same time will minimize the time for sending the samples to the laboratory and waiting for the results.
Conceptualized by Central Aquaculture Laboratory team of RGCA and Designed and executed by a team of engineers at ShanMukha Innovations Pvt Ltd, a spin-off from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, this mobile laboratory enables state of art PCR tests to be performed close to aquaculture ponds.
The mobile laboratory is having three major components: water quality analysis facility, microbiological sample testing area and major shrimp pathogens detection facility.
Major instruments include Real Time thermal cycler, Cooling centrifuge, Deep freezer, Laminar air flow system etc.
A smart mobile application provides real-time location tracking and monitoring of internal parameters of the lab such as temperature and humidity.
This real time Vehicle Tracking and Information System will enable scientists working at RGCA-HQ to assist the technicians working in the mobile laboratory.
This Mobile Laboratory for Aquaculture Disease Diagnosis will reduces the overall turnaround time thereby saving significant cost, time and effort for aquaculture farmers.
