Aquaculture Library

Aquaculture Library of RGCA was established during 2011 at RGCA-HQ, Sirkazhi, Tamil Nadu.

Major Objectives

To develop and maintain a modern library and information centre devoted to aquaculture.

To acquire and build up a wide range of publications including books, monographs, reference books, journals, proceedings, scientific and technical reports, CD-ROM and other Digital media.

To organize information resources in a systematic manner by adopting standard latest technology with effective methods for information storage and retrieval.


To maintain liaison with other local, national and international centre for sharing information.


To support all RGCA/MPEDA projects by providing information on aquaculture and related aspects.


Salient features of Library

The aquaculture library acts as a repository of literature and information in the field of aquaculture and related subjects.

The library has the total collection of 1400 books, 1500 bound volumes of journals, and other reference materials.

RGCA‚s Aquaculture Library proudly maintaining renowned scientist & visionary Dr. E. G. Silas numerous collections of rare books and unique archival materials which are the Gold-mines for aquaculture and related field.

Various activities of RGCA‚s Aquaculture Library have been computerized and using integrated library management software Alice for Windows (Afw) an Australian software.

The catalogue (Books / CDs /Journals, etc) of Aquaculture Library is Available on the RGCA Website (Web OPAC: Online Public Access Catalogue) which may be accessed from anywhere.

The library has subscribed for 24 International journals and 44 Indian Journals.

Achievements

Regularly releasing RGCA‚s Annual Reports and Newsletter. Till now Six Annual Reports and thirteen Newsletter have been released.

Released Proceedings on “Emerging diseases in farmed shrimp with special focus on Early Mortality Syndrome” as a part of the first edition of Dr. E. G. Silas Endowment Lecture.

Released Proceedings of the International Seminar cum Workshop on “Mud Crab Aquaculture and Fisheries Management”.

Released Proceedings of the “India Tilapia Summit 2014 and 2nd edition of the Dr. E. G. Silas Endowment Lecture”.

All the library documents are being digitalized with the help of Alice for Windows (Afw) Library automation software and allotted ISSN & ISBN numbers to RGCA publications.
